Modifying the Elections Law and its effect on the Legislative Process

The lecturer discussed the modifications approved by the Legislative Council according to which the Elections Law no. 13 for the year 1995 was modified. The modifications focused on the registration process. However the modified law pointed out to the adoption of the civil registry in addition to the elector’s registry as a mechanism used for the electoral registration. The Central Elections Committee compared between the elections registry and the electors’ registry in which resulted in opening additional 500 election ballot for those electors according to the civil registry in alphabetical order. Moreover the lecturer pointed out to the historical background of the civil registry and concentrated on the points of deficiency, rendering it somehow inaccurate. He also indicated that the Palestinian Legislative Council didn’t consult the Central Elections Committee which recommended the non-modification of the Elections Law.

A number of interested people and representatives from societies attended the encounter. The total was 40 participants.
