Delegation of the IoL visited the Nablus Family Court

As part of activities of the Family Law Court Judgements Database, a project implemented by the Institute of Law (IoL) at Birzeit Universityl, a delegation of the IoL visited the Nablus Western Family Court. Sheikh Ribhi al Qasrawi at Tamimi, High Religious Court Justice and Chairman of the Technical Office at the High Religious Judicial Council, was in company with the IoL researchers. The delegation viewed and examined sample historic documents, which date back to the beginning of the Ottoman rule over Palestine. As these constitute part of Palestine’s historic and legal heritage, the IoL plans to electronically archive these documents in order to protect them against damage or loss. The IoL delegation included staff members Jamil Salem, Reem al Butmeh, Ahmed Khaled and Ahmed Hammou.

The IoL delegation also visited the Nablus Eastern Family Law Court to view contents of judgements entered by the Family Court of First Instance. IoL staff examined the possibility of entering sample judgements into IoL’s Family Court Judgements Database. To be an integral part of the Palestinian Legal  and Judicial System (AL-MUQTAFI), the database is planned to include decisions entered by the Family Court of Appeal and High Family Court.

The Family Law Court Judgements Database project is funded by the Danish Government.
